In the summer of
2002 a parade of tall ships will enter San Francisco Bay. The procession
will mark the beginning of a six day Tall Ship Festival -- part of the
2002 Tall Ships Challenge. From August 28 to September 2, 2002 over 10
class A square-rigged ships and numerous class B and C vessels from the
US and abroad will grace the Bay. This event promises to be the largest
gathering of tall ships in San Francisco Bay since 1849!
Sail San Francisco successfully
brought the Gold Rush Sail visit of international
tall ships and their crews to the San Francisco Bay Area in July 1999.
The majestic parade of ships entering the bay along with the many educational
and cultural events, including tours of the ships, were enjoyed by more
than 2 million Bay Area residents and visitors. With your help,
we can make this next gathering even more successful.
"Only by knowing and understanding
each other's experiences can we we find common ground on which
we can examine and resolve our differences. As the world becomes
more and more interdependent, such mutual understanding becomes
increasingly vital."
